Series Information

Details

In this KET-produced instructional series for elementary and middle school classrooms, outstanding performers teach traditional Appalachian, African-American, and Native American dances and play party games. The activities, some centuries old, are "community dances" involving patterns of singing, dancing, poetry, mimicry, and play-acting. Each program features step-by-step instructions as well as a complete performance of the game or dance demonstrated by students. An interview segment with the performer gives the historical and cultural contexts of the dance.
