KET honored with 19 Regional Emmy nominations

The Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) recently recognized KET productions and programs with 19 Regional Emmy Award nominations.
The awards recognize excellence in the areas of local news, programming and individual achievement and are one of the industry’s highest honors.

Calling It Quits: Real Help to Stop Smoking

Laura Krueger – Health/Science/Environment
Part of KET’s ongoing Smoking & Health initiative, funded in part by the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky, Calling it Quits examines effective medications and behavioral strategies available to help people give up smoking for good and improve their health.

“Effie Waller Smith” on Kentucky Life

Chelsea Gorham and Lillie Ruschell – Magazine Feature Segment
This Kentucky Life segment on author Effie Waller Smith details the life of the Pikeville native and daughter of former slaves who published poetry books and short stories during the early 1900s.

It’s a Grand Night for Singing: 25th Anniversary

KET’s crew was on hand to capture the 25th anniversary of this annual production by the UK Opera Theatre. Staged in Lexington at the Singletary Center for the Arts, It’s A Grand Night For Singing contains many Broadway favorites, including “Show People” and “Lullaby of Broadway,” as well as more recent hits, including songs from the smash hit Hamilton.

Journey to Recovery

Laura Krueger and Justin Allen – Documentary Cultural/Topical
Journey to Recovery examines the opioid epidemic in Kentucky and explores treatment options available for those battling the disease of addiction. The program is narrated by Grammy-winning recording artist and Kentucky native Sturgill Simpson.

The long-running KET series explores the state’s natural beauty and historic sites, samples the creativity of the Commonwealth’s hundreds of artists and musicians, and discovers the unique contributions of interesting people all over the state.

In The Local Traveler, host Amy Hess discovers people, places and products of Kentucky – focusing on homegrown products, local destinations and hometown businesses that make Kentucky’s cities and towns so special.

News Quiz

Jayne McClew, Angelic Phelps, Anna Gordon and Allison NeCamp Day – Informational/Instructional
News Quiz, KET’s weekly current events show, presents weekly news stories targeted to students in grades 4-8 via a kid-friendly, interactive program available to classrooms across the state and country via PBS LearningMedia.

In addition to the above KET productions, 11 additional nominations were garnered by programs airing on KET, including multiple nominations for Bluegrass & Backroads as well as single nominations for Belle Brezing and the Gilded Age of the Bluegrass, DOWNSTREAM, Kentucky Afield and kNOwMORE.
