Latin 1 students learn the basic grammar and vocabulary of Latin in a way that improves their ability to understand English, and prepares them to study other languages. Mythology and an overview of Roman contributions to Western civilization are stressed. This background helps students make sense of unfamiliar words on standardized tests. The course is structured for 9th-12th graders, but is available to highly motivated 8th graders.
