KET Early Childhood Education held their 3rd Daniel Tiger Be My Neighbor Day on September 5, 2019 at Family Care Center in Lexington. This event was possible thru a grant from Fred Rogers Productions and PNC Bank. A major part of the day provides children and their families ways to give back to the local community around them.
During the event families had the chance to:
- make cards for Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass, a program dedicated to directly improving the health and well-being of children and to strengthen families by keeping them together in times of medical need
- put together personal care kits for Project LIFE (Learning Independence and Fostering Empowerment), a statewide program designed to assist young adults in Kentucky who are transitioning out of foster care and the Hope Center Emergency Shelter, which provides food, shelter and clothing to people who are homeless
- put together snack bags for Gavin’s Goodies, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing snack foods and drinks to pediatric cancer patients at the University of Kentucky Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic
Participants also had a meet and greet with Daniel Tiger and Read-to-Me opportunities with local community helpers including Lexington Police Chief Weathers and Dr. Donna Grigsby a.k.a. Mother Goose. Attendees had a blast with hula-hoop and bubble stations and each family walked away with a giveaway bag filled with Daniel Tiger swag, kits from the PNC Grow up Great Campaign, and more!
