Because fewer students were attracted to community college and technical programs, many industries now face a shortage of workers. In recent years there has been much expressed concern at the heightened increase in suicide rates among young adults. It is now the second leading cause of death of young people. Depression, anxiety, stress, difficult economic periods, abuse, addiction, death of loved ones, job loss and more have been identified as contributing factors for the pain and hopelessness that can lead to suicidality. September is National Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month. Resources are available to share with learners who may be experiencing a crisis or exhibiting risks.
