In a typical year, hundreds of Kentucky students make the trek to Frankfort to visit the Kentucky State Capitol. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Capitol has been closed to in-person tours since March 2020. However, students can now take a virtual trip there, thanks to new video tours from KET.

Teachers have many questions about Holocaust pedagogy, but Fred Whitaker said the most important question is one they should ask themselves: Why am I teaching about the Holocaust? Whittaker teaches at St. Francis of Assisi in Louisville. A passionate advocate for Holocaust education, he and others lobbied successfully for mandatory inclusion of Holocaust studies in Kentucky’s middle and high schools.

KET has new educational resources for teaching students about the Holocaust. The new Juliek’s Violin collection, available in PBS LearningMedia, features three videos from a Louisville concert on Holocaust remembrance.

During a typical school year, students visit KET’s Media Lab by the dozens for workshops on using multimedia in learning projects. This year, the Media Lab mostly comes to them, via the internet. Cynthia Warner, KET’s multimedia education consultant, is making the pandemic’s “new normal” work for students across the state in the virtual setting.

KET Early Childhood recently offered a new Informational Text with Molly of Denali workshop as part of KET Education's Virtual Learning Series. Molly of Denali centers on 10-year-old Molly Mabray, her family, trusty sidekicks Tooey and Trini, and four-legged friend Suki. The series was created to model various ways that children can use informational texts in their daily lives.

On Saturday November 14th, educators from all over Kentucky grabbed their morning coffee and joined KET Early Childhood for a virtual EdCamp. Over 40 participants joined the “un-conference” to discuss topics chosen by them beforehand. Virtual learning, integrating media, and engaging families were among the many topics covered.
