News Quiz celebrates its 35th season

News Quiz, KET’s Emmy award-winning weekly current events program, celebrates its 35th season this year. The 15-minute program is targeted to 4th through 8th graders and includes a student-friendly quiz on the week’s top news stories. Each episode shares visually engaging content, drawn from the state, nation and world.

For 33 weeks every school year, viewers are encouraged to interact through taking part in the test, topical polls and answering opinion questions. Each episode is accompanied by a printable quiz, vocabulary and web links for more information.

First debuting in 1984, current anchor Kelsey Starks is the third host in the program’s history. Following decades as a broadcast program, News Quiz is now made available through PBS LearningMedia, an online repository of educational materials for teachers and parents. With an estimated weekly audience of more than 62,000 students last season, News Quiz is KET’s most viewed resource on PBS LearningMedia.

Along with regularly reaching students from more than 113 Kentucky districts, News Quiz is viewed consistently by schools in nearly all 50 states.

News Quiz is produced by Jayne McClew and Angelic Phelps; writer Anna Gordon and educational consultant Allison NeCamp Day complete the four-person News Quiz team with graphics by Clark Bradshaw.

The new season of News Quiz debuted on PBS LearningMedia on September 5.
