Microsoft has purchased MinecraftEdu and has incorporated features of the program into a new program called Minecraft Education Edition. KET’s Media Lab will be offering free introductory program workshops to schools soon.
Minecraft Education Edition has many of the classroom enhancement features of MinecraftEdu and has added some new ones such as a camera for documentation of student progress and a student portfolio that can be exported.
See more information about Microsoft’s new educational gaming software for schools at the Minecraft Education Edition website.
Until KET acquires the new program we’re still offering KET Media Lab’s workshop on using Minecraft in the classroom: MinecraftEdu: An Educational Gaming Experience for Students and Teachers. It includes many of the features of the new program and is a good introductory experience to using Minecraft in the classroom.
