Humana’s Dr. Bryan Loy discusses building healthy communities on KET’s Kentucky Health

For Release: 12/15/17 1:27 PM

KET’s Kentucky Health welcomes Dr. Bryan Loy, corporate medical director at Humana, Inc., and co-chair of the Louisville Health Advisory Board. The program airs Sunday, Jan. 7 at 11:30/10:30 am on KET and Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 6:30/5:30 pm on KET2.

Host Dr. Wayne Tuckson talks with Loy about Humana’s goal of making Louisville 20 percent healthier by 2020. “The program is specific to Louisville, but we don’t live in a vacuum. We’re looking to improve the lives of all Kentuckians,” Loy says about the initiative, known as Humana’s Bold Goal.

The three-year-old project works with community, physician and clinician partners to address issues such as health disparities among various populations, access to care, food insecurity, air pollution, coordination of care services, diabetes and more, Loy tells Tuckson during their interview.

Among other indicators, the project uses the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Healthy Days survey tool to measure an individual’s mental and physical “unhealthy days” in a 30-day period – with an overall goal of reducing those numbers by 20 percent in the next few years.

“We want to expand beyond dealing with sick care and look at how we can keep people at their best health,” Loy says.

Loy completed his residency and fellowship in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematology at the University of Louisville and has served in both clinical practice as well as industry roles.

Kentucky Health is a KET production, co-produced by Dr. Wayne Tuckson and Laura Krueger.
