KET Fall Season lineup includes Ken Burns’ The Vietnam War, return of Poldark, more

Highlighted by the much-anticipated premiere of Ken Burns’ new series The Vietnam War, KET’s Fall Season features an array of must-see arts, public affairs and history programming.

Burns’ epic, 10-part documentary The Vietnam War airs Sundays through Thursdays, Sept. 17-28 at 8/7 pm on KET and presents an in-depth look at the war as it has never before been told on film. Featuring the testimony of nearly 80 interviewees – including many American veterans as well as those who opposed the war, plus Vietnamese combatants and civilians from both sides – the documentary, ten years in the making, sets out to bring the war and the tumultuous social climate surrounding it to life.

A new series, Third Rail with OZY, airing Fridays at 9/8 pm on KET beginning Sept. 8, features Emmy Award-winning journalist Carlos Watson and a panel of expert and celebrity guests who debate a new, provocative topic each week, while incorporating audience input and social media input into their responses

Fans of Masterpiece’s Poldark will want to tune in Sundays, Oct. 1-Nov. 19 at 9/8 pm on KET as the series returns. In a dramatic, third season, Ross and Demelza attempt to repair their relationship, while Elizabeth harbors a dangerous secret.

Genealogy series Finding Your Roots returns with a host of new star-studded episodes exploring the family trees of celebrities including Scarlett Johansson, Ted Danson, Larry David, Bryant Gumbel, Amy Schumer, Mary Steenburgen, Christopher Walken and more. The series airs Tuesdays, Oct. 3-Dec. 26 at 8/7 pm on KET.

Kentucky Life, KET’s long-running weekly series about the history, people and places that make the Commonwealth so unique, returns for a new season on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 8/7 pm on KET.

Masterpiece’s The Durrells in Corfuthe series the Wall Street Journal dubbed “irresistible” – chronicles the adventures of Louisa Durrell and her four willful children in the Greek island of Corfu. It returns for a second season Sundays, Oct. 15-Nov. 19 at 8/7 pm on KET.

Fridays, Oct. 20-Dec. 1 at 9:30/8:30 pm on KET, Great Performances presents a salute to Broadway, including spotlights on three of the Great White Way’s most acclaimed recent productions: “She Loves Me” on Oct. 20; “Present Laughter,starring Kevin Kline, on Nov. 3; and “Holiday Inn” on Nov. 24.

FRONTLINE presents “Putin’s Revenge” on Oct. 25-Nov. 1 at 10/9 pm on KET. The two-part investigation looks at Vladimir Putin’s mounting grievances against the United States and his efforts to extract revenge leading up to the 2016 presidential election. Featuring original reporting from both Moscow and Washington, D.C., the documentary traces how Putin went from low-ranking KGB agent to long-serving president of a newly assertive Russia.

KET’s Kentucky Collectibles returns for its sixth season of appraisals, with episodes filmed at the Paducah McCracken County Convention and Expo Center, on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 4:30/3:30 pm on KET.

Fans of the best-selling 2014 memoir H Is for Hawk – which recounts how author Helen Macdonald dealt with grief over the death of her father by training a goshawk named Mabel – will want to tune in on Nov. 1 at 8/7 pm on KET for the new documentary H Is for Hawk: A New Challenge. The film follows Macdonald’s emotional and intimate journey as she adopts a young goshawk and attempts to raise it as her own:  feeding, nurturing and training her new charge in the hopes that months of preparation will culminate in a successful first free flight.

And again this year, viewers can enjoy a special Thanksgiving treat: a new Anne of Green Gables special will premiere on Thanksgiving Day at 8/7 pm on KET. Anne of Green Gables – The Good Stars follows Anne as she turns 13 and finds her free-spirited nature conflicting with her perceived need to be more sensible – leading to a series of unfortunate, but amusing, mishaps.
