It’s a family effort for Greenup County’s Oldtown Volunteer Fire Department. Doug Flynn visits the Mennonite community near Scottsville and meets custom knife maker Sam Stoner. Lake Cumberland’s Striper Time Guide Service puts Doug’s angler reputation to the test.
Being a volunteer firefighter takes a special kind of dedication. That kind of commitment seems to run in the family for the men and women at the Oldtown Volunteer Fire Department in Greenup County.
Sam Stoner and His Knives
Sam Stoner is a master knife maker, and his knives are considered among the best available. He lives in rural Allen County in a large Mennonite community near Scottsville. Stoner showed Kentucky Life host Doug Flynn the process of making a hunting knife. He begins by getting the fire up to a high enough temperature so that he can work with the steel.
Springtime means striper season at Lake Cumberland, and Doug Flynn recently met up with Mark Wasiloski of Striper Time Guide Service and Jeff Burton of Cumberland Pro Lures at the Fall Creek Recreation Area.
