The Althea Gibson Story: I Always Wanted To Be Somebody

In the 1950s, an era when African Americans were generally seen at tennis clubs only as servants, a defiant young woman from Harlem played her way to the royal courts of Wimbledon, blazing trails for others to follow. After her tennis triumphs, Gibson also became the first black woman ever to qualify for the Ladies Professional Golf Association tour.
