Teachers from around the country work toward deepening their understanding of teaching science by inquiry by becoming students themselves. At the six-week National Science Foundation (NSF) summer institute in physics and physical science, they are guided in constructing some of the basic concepts required to teach science effectively through carefully sequenced questions and experiments. The process also helps them recognize and resolve some of the difficulties students commonly encounter in science classes.
