Brothermen

A performance-based documentary featuring five black men who, through their art, transmit the historical, political and cultural realities of the African-American experience. Interweaving music, dance, photography, archival footage, and interviews, the program celebrates the lives and enduring achievements of legendary songwriters Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, the creators and producers of The Sound of Philadelphia; Chester Higgins Jr., who documents the African diaspora, in the United States and across the continents, with his photographs; choreographer and dancer David Rouss?ve, vice chair of world arts and cultures at UCLA; and the late "Pops" Staples, performer, songwriter, patriarch of the Staples Singers, and long-time civil rights activist.
