Ben Shahn: Passion for Justice

Rare television and radio interviews with artist Ben Shahn, who died in 1969, as well as interviews with his widow, writers, scholars, and friends, illuminate the social, political, and spiritual concerns that motivated his creative process. Shahn came to prominence in the 1930s with The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti, a politically pointed series of paintings about the Italian anarchists. He went on to paint murals and take photographs for the government during the New Deal and to become a successful commercial artist.
