Outside Alliance, NE, a whimsical monument rises from the desolate prairie: 38 spray-painted vintage automobiles stacked and buried upright in a post-modern replication of the British prehistoric stone circle Stonehenge. While drawing the curious from far and wide, Carhenge also represents a challenge to one community's definitions of art, freedom of expression, and appropriate land use.
