Coal House

What was life like for a coal miner in the 1920s? COAL HOUSE, an engaging three-part living-history series, explores this question as three families leave the 21st century behind and swap their modern-day comforts for life in a 1920s Welsh coal-mining community. Coal was the chief energy source for Britain in that era and, as these families find out, those who worked in the industry faced formidable challenges. Just like life in 1927, the men experience the dangers and hardships of work at the mine, the women grapple with endless household chores, and the children face harsh discipline at school and hard work at home. But it's not all doom and gloom - the families find ways of having fun despite the difficult conditions. There's a special birthday, a Halloween night and a fabulous concert during their three-week journey back in time.
