The Congregation

Filmmakers Alan and Susan Raymond capture a dramatic year in the life of a 200-year-old Methodist church with a rich history of social activism. A new traditionalist minister replaces a progressive pastor who had served the church for 38 years, and divisions within the congregation lead to dwindling membership, financial troubles, and conflict with the increasingly conservative United Methodist Church. Then the associate pastor announces that she is a practicing homosexual, risking the loss of her ministerial credentials, and the congregation backs her up as she challenges church law.
