Kate Chopin: A Re-Awakening

Revisits the life and work of renowned 19th-century Louisiana author Kate Chopin, best known for The Awakening. Published in 1899, the novel drew a storm of criticism for its shocking, morbid, and vulgar story, which ends in the heroine's suicide, and quickly went out of print. It was resurrected in the 1950s, when members of the growing women's movement recognized its importance. Kelly McGillis narrates this profile of the author, and JoBeth Williams reads passages from Chopin's fiction.
