With All Deliberate Speed

On May 17, 1954, the Supreme Court handed down its decision in the cases collectively known as Brown v. Board of Education, striking down the notion of separate but equal education and ending segregation in America's public schools. Referred to by many legal scholars as the case of the century, Brown launched the civil rights movement, which transformed America's race relations and social structure over the following decades, and still serves as a model for human rights activism throughout the world.
