Conic Sections

Everyday applications of the curves called conics are evident in satellite dishes, reflectors for automobile headlights, the paths of satellites and planets, and the arches of bridges. In this high school mathematics series, contemporary three-dimensional animation techniques and a touch of humor illustrate the properties and applications of conics, position them on the Cartesian plane, and apply simple transformations to move them from standard position to other positions on the plane. Methods of construction are also introduced.
