Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump

A re-creation of a Peigan hunt at the world's largest, oldest, and best-preserved buffalo jump, designed to spark discussion in middle school classrooms about the importance of geography to Native American societies and the reasons for the near extinction of the American bison. Stories from Native elders, a visit to the annual Buffalo Jump Pow Wow, and interviews with archaeologists reveal the complexity of Plains Indian culture.
