A field trip for grades 4-8 explores the effects of wildfire and how humans are attempting to predict, fight, and sometimes use it. The program shows the sometimes devastating effects of fire while also exploring its natural role in ecosystems; goes behind the scenes at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, ID, which coordinates firefighting efforts on federal lands; explains how fires start, develop, and spread; and looks at how communities are assessing and managing the risks of wildfire.
