The Underwater World of Space: Journey to the Neutral Buoyancy Lab

This electronic field trip, designed for grades 5-9, takes students to Space Center Houston to experience NASA's underwater training facility, where astronauts can practice maneuvers and procedures in conditions that mimic the weightlessness of space. The Sonny Carter Training Facility, or Neutral Buoyancy Lab, is the largest pool on Earth, holding more than 6.2 million gallons of water. There astronauts prepare for spacewalks and engineers test equipment and spacesuits.
