Profiles Carlos Gardel, an acclaimed singer of tango songs and an Argentinean superstar in the 1920s. His music is making an international comeback, due largely to the efforts of tenor sensation Marcelo Alvarez. On a trip to his homeland to visit Gardel's old haunts on the seedy side of Buenos Aires, Alvarez seeks inspiration and insight into his hero. In the process, he sings the songs-songs of passion and despair, of longing and lust-that made tango one of the 20th century's most popular musical forms.
