A taut psychological drama, inspired by an Ambrose Bierce short story and filmed in the style of Alfred Hitchcock, about a Confederate soldier named Jerome Searing (Gordon Baxter) fighting his own private battle for survival during the Civil War. While scouting behind enemy lines, Searing is trapped in the rubble of a deserted mansion. Knowing that an errant move will kill him, he slips in and out of consciousness in haunting scenes that play tricks with time and build to a surprising conclusion. Introduced by actor Charles Durning.
