Interviews and footage of archaeologists at work in the field and the laboratory illustrate how they use physical evidence and scientific detective work to uncover how past civilizations functioned, how they changed over time, and what lessons they hold for modern societies. Sites explored include the spectacular Mayan center of Copán, Honduras as well as past and present cultures in Central and North America, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
