Quiltmakers of Gee's Bend

For more than 150 years, the African-American women of Gee's Bend, AL have made quilts reflecting their world. For generations, they worked in isolation and poverty, continuing to inhabit the remote plantation land where their forebears were slaves. Today, art critics worldwide are comparing Gee's Bend to the great creative enclaves of the Italian Renaissance.
