Search for the U.S.S. Maine

In 1898, the U.S.S. Maine was anchored off Havana, Cuba when the battleship mysteriously exploded, killing most of the crew and sparking the Spanish-American War. More than 100 years later, an international team of scientists set out to find the wreck on the ocean floor and determine the cause of the explosion. Letters from Maine crew members, interviews with their descendants, Spanish-American War reenactments, and accounts by naval experts and historians bring the era to life and trace the events leading up to the night of the fateful explosion.
