Despite a racist prewar climate in which they weren't even considered U.S. citizens, 7,000 Filipino Americans rallied to join the war effort after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The volunteers who made up two all-Filipino Army regiments proved to be skilled fighters and were indispensable in freeing the Philippines from the Japanese and winning World War II.
