On February 4, 1945, three of the most powerful leaders in the world-British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin-met at the seaside Crimean resort town of Yalta to craft a settlement that would forever alter the European landscape. But while preparing for the close of one war, they unwittingly laid the groundwork for conflicts to come.
