Alcatraz Is Not an Island

In 1969, a small group of students claimed Alcatraz Island as Native American territory. Thousands of activists eventually joined them, retaking this Indian land for the first time since the 1880s. The takeover altered U.S. government policy and programs and forever changed the way Native Americans view themselves, their culture, and their rights. Benjamin Bratt narrates.
