In Search of Ancient Ireland

The history of fabled Erin comes alive through stunning imagery, original music and timeless stories in this vivid portrait of the island nation's remarkable past and its enduring impact on Western civilization. The three-part documentary series spans the centuries, from 3,000 BC, when Stone Age farmers built some of the largest and most spectacular Neolithic monuments in Europe, to the Norman invasion of 1170 AD, when Ireland first came under control of the English throne. Archeological evidence is scarce in Ireland, and the written word did not arrive until the Christian missionaries introduced the concept of writing approximately 1,500 years ago. Thus, much of the country's early history must be pieced together through the wealth of Celtic myths and legends that were transmitted orally and later preserved.
