Desi: South Asians in New York

More than 200,000 desi-a Hindi word meaning countryman or people of the soil-now live in New York City. This tribute to the Pakistanis, Indians, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans, Nepalese, and others who have become an integral part of the region includes scenes of community life, religion, and culture and lively interviews with comedians Alladin and Bhangra DJ Rekha as well as members of many religious groups.
