Frontier Visionary: George Catlin and the Plains Indians

In the 1830s, George Catlin became the first major artist to travel beyond the Mississippi and live with American Indians. He eventually recorded the manners and customs of 50 Plains tribes. A re-creation of his epic journey up the Missouri River, writings by Catlin himself, and interviews with contemporary Native American commentators recount his adventures in the American West and explore his artistic legacy.
