Elinor Wonders Why is a new series from PBS KIDS that aims to encourage children to follow their curiosity, ask questions when they don't understand and find answers using science inquiry skills. A new PBS LearningMedia collection has an array of resources - including interactive lessons, playlists, viewing guides, and printable activities - to encourage students to ask questions, make observations, and bask in the wonderment of nature's amazing answers!

KET is pleased to announce the winners of Meet the Helpers, the inaugural KET Summer Story Contest that celebrates the everyday helpers and heroes who answer the call during the pandemic. Children in K-3 grades were invited to submit stories describing selfless acts from the helpers they witness in their communities.

Do your students often wonder "When will I ever use this?" KET’s new Skills on Demand collection on PBS LearningMedia features interactive lessons that answer this question while reviewing essential skills in math and language arts. Teachers can assign the multi-page lessons virtually and track student progress online.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 KET Multimedia Professional Development Day went virtual. Kentucky educators could choose from 12 workshops over two weeks -- participating in every session that interested them instead of only four. While multimedia resources were highlighted, this year's workshops had a heavy focus on remote learning. The sessions were recorded and are now available to view online along with related materials.

Thanks to a generous grant, the KET Early Education team in partnership with Family Resource Centers across Kentucky, will distribute Summer Learning at Home kits to PreK through 3rd grade students in need over the next week. The kits include a packet of materials with activities, which can also be downloaded online for free!

Family and Community Workshops foster collaboration, communication, and fun

On four Tuesday nights in February and March, families gathered at the George Unseld Early Childhood Center in Louisville to attend the Molly of Denali Family and Community Learning (FCL) workshop series. The FCL workshops focused on building multi-generational engagement with learning.  Families explored their community using informational text to learn about traditions, recipes, and native animals.

New Story Contest Celebrates Everyday Helpers and Heroes

The first-annual KET Summer Story Contest seeks to celebrate the everyday helpers and heroes who are answering the call during the coronavirus health pandemic, while encouraging student writing and creativity. We invite students who will be entering kindergarten, first, second, or third grade to submit an illustrated story centered on the theme “Meet the Helpers.”
